Heavy rain forecast in Gujarat for next five days

The cyclonic circulation system created over Chhattisgarh and Odisha will result in good rainfall in the city in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department. IMD Director Jayanta Sarkar said the state would receive heavy rainfall over the next five days. He made the statement after a meeting in Gandhinagar on Tuesday.

"South Gujarat, north Gujarat, Kutch and Saurashtra region are going to get heavy rainfall over the next five days," said Sarkar. "A cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and Odisha will contribute to the widespread rains."

Generally, good rainfall have been observed in the state during the months of July and August. Fishermen in south Gujarat have been told not to venture into the sea. The state's disaster management team has been alerted and 15 National Disaster Response Force teams are on standby. This season, 13 monsoon-related deaths have been reported across the state so far.

Private weather forecast agency Skymet Weather is of the view that the intensity of rainfall would increase over Gujarat, bringing moderate to heavy showers over Saurashtra and other parts of the state.

However, Kutch region will continue to deal with more or less dry weather conditions, but light showers are not ruled out. Surat Mahuva, Veraval, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Vadodara and Ahmedabad will receive good rainfall over the next two days. While Rajkot, Surendranagar, Deesa and Idar may witness one or two spells of moderate rainfall during the period.
